Warren Laurell

October 1, 1928 — August 19, 2021

Warren James Laurell passed away on August 19, 2021 at the age of 92. His battle with congestive heart failure over the years highlighted his immense courage. Despite his pain and discomfort Warren remained strong, resilient, and graceful until the very end.

Warren was born on October 1,1928 to Arthur and Adela Laurell. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and as a child loved to run around and cause mischief with his little sister Darlene. At the age of 16 Warren left home and joined the Merchant Marines, where he spent many years traveling the world as a radio officer on various vessels.

Warren said farewell to the sea upon meeting the love of his life, Mary Ann. Together, they raised three children: John, Michelle, and Tamera. Warren was a real force of nature. Determined to provide for his family, he worked long hours as an Electrical Engineer to provide them everything he possibly could. His family meant the world to him, something he often mentioned. He was passionately proud of each of them and always did what he could to support their undertakings. Warren was also a passionate tinkerer and could often be found fixing and creating in his workshops. His many unfinished projects will now go uncompleted, but his love of family and friends certainly was complete.

Anyone who knew Warren knew that he was the most loving husband, father, and “pappy” that a family could ever hope for. He was respectful and kind to everyone he met, and was adored by all the various caretakers throughout the years. Warren was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann, daughter Michelle, and father Arthur. Warren is survived by his son John and his wife Janet, daughter Tammy and her husband Ian. And his grandchildren Taylor, Brittany, Aubree, Nathan, and Cameron. A public Memorial is scheduled for 11 am on Friday September 17th, 2021. The service will be held in the chapel of Houston’s First Baptist Church Loop campus. The family asks that, in-lieu of flowers, donations be made in Warren's memory to either Newton Memorial Ladies Aid at PO Box 614 Rainelle, WV. 25962-0614, or Star of Hope Mission ( www.SOHMission.org ).
