Mary Lou Perret passed away on April 29, 2022 in Houston, Texas. Mary was born on May 19, 1933 in Cottonwood Falls, KS to Dudley John Fisk and Elsie Ruth Fisk. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Joseph John Perret, daughter Mireille Perret and son-in-law Paul Campbell of Houston, TX, her sister Patricia Ruth “Pat” Murray of Louisberg, KS, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by in-laws Dr. William Joseph Perret, Joan Perret (New Orleans), Joseph Francis “Rummy” Perret, and Joan Perret (Maryland). She was preceded in death by her parents Dudley John Fisk and Elsie Ruth Fisk, sister Marjorie Ann McKee, brother-in-law Miles McKee, and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Murray. She is also preceded in death by in-laws Dr. Joseph Maxime Perret Jr., Mary Aline Perret, Henry Camille Perret, Peggy Perret, Dr. James Thomas Perret, Ozzie Perret, Joseph Paul Perret, Paule Perret, and Verna Marie Perret.

Mary graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS with a B.A. and Phi Beta Kappa honors. She obtained her M.S. in library science from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She worked as a librarian in the Kansas City, MO Public Library before she escaped the cold weather and moved to New Orleans in 1963. She worked in the Business and Science Reference Department of the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library, where she enjoyed helping people find answers to their questions. After the birth of her daughter, she was a full-time mom. She discovered the joy of volunteering in the 1990s at the Memorial Baptist Campus hospital. She enjoyed living in New Orleans for 50 years before moving to Houston with her dear husband John to live with Mireille and Paul.

Mary loved ballet, classical music, and cats. She will be dearly missed by many.

A Funeral Mass will be held in New Orleans at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Orleans SPCA.
