Mary Musick

January 29, 1930 — November 22, 2020

On November 22, 2020, Mary Beth Musick, 90, of Sugar Land, TX, went to be with her Lord.  She was the middle child of five, born in Lissie, Texas, on January 29, 1930, to Victor and Mildred Segelquist. Mary graduated from Alvin High School and attended University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX. She and her first husband farmed rice in the Eagle Lake area while raising their two children.  In Eagle Lake, she taught Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church and owned and managed a children’s boutique named Buttons and Bows. After her divorce, she married Neil Jenkins and moved to Texas City, TX where she managed a fabric store and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. They relocated to Victoria, TX in the mid 70’s where she volunteered at the hospital and formed her own sewing and craft business naming it Mary Beth's Custom Creations. In the early 90’s she found herself a widow.  Her faith, church and traveling with Victoria’s First Ladies helped fill the void of her loss. Ten years later, she married her Sunday school teacher, Jem Musick. They enjoyed church, theater and the symphony as well as family gatherings together. After Jem passed away her children convinced her to move closer to them where she lived the rest of her days surrounded by her adoring family.

Mary Beth will be remembered as a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She has shared and passed down to the family her love for creating, learning, reading and gardening.  She touched the lives of all who knew her.  No matter who she met, everyone was blessed by her wit and wisdom, her style and show, and the love she shared because she had faith in her Lord to guide the gifts she shared.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Vic Mart Segelquist; husbands Roy Neil Jenkins and Jem Musick; Melvin Hayden (first husband and father of Ron and Connie).

Mary is survived by a sister, Wanda Stewart; a brother, Charles Segelquist; a daughter, Connie Guyton, husband William, son Ron Hayden and wife “Jinx”, four grandchildren and their spouses: Beth Lin Guyton (Scott Kissinger), Paula Roberts (Zach), Matt Hayden (Kim), Megan James (Tyler), six great-grandchildren Ryan Roberts, Hudson and McKinley Hayden, Lux and Leo James and Zia Kissinger.

In her honor, donations to Blue Bonnet Palliative Care, 12111 Ranch Road 12 Ste 114, Wimberley, TX 78676, bluebonnetpc.com or Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall St., Houston, TX 77029, houstonfoodbank.org are welcome.
