Martin Bridges

May 8, 1958 — March 28, 2022

Martin Barrett Bridges, 63, passed away peacefully early in the morning on Monday, March 28th, 2022 after a long battle with esophageal cancer.  He was born May 8th, 1958 in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Martin loved the outdoors.  He couldn’t wait for dove season to come around because that meant it was hunting season – first dove, then deer.  Part of the enjoyment for him was getting to sit quietly with nature.  He loved it so much that he bought property in Hallettsville because there were so many deer tracks on the property.  And he immediately got a riding lawn mower to keep on the property so that he could have an excuse to go out there every weekend.

For as much as he loved hunting, he loved being out on the water even more.  He was always looking for the next great fishing spot and would talk for hours about how the fish behaved in the different bodies of water he would fish in. And his favorite vacations were ones that involved the beaches in Florida.  As soon as he stepped foot on the sand, he would head straight for the water and stay there all day.  He could Boogie Board all day long.

For most of Martin’s life, his profession involved working with his hands.  First as a front-end mechanic in a shop he owned with his father, then as a self-employed flooring installer.  He always took pride in his work and would never take short cuts.  Towards the end of his career, he stepped into the role of Superintendent of Flooring and spent his days on jobs making sure that the installers working for him were doing it to his level of perfection.  The company he worked for had a contract with Katy ISD and he used to love to walk into any of the many buildings owned by the district and tell people “I laid this floor”.  So, if you think about it, most of the people in Katy have been in contact with his work at some point in their lives.

Martin was preceded in death by his father Martin Bridges.

He is survived by his son Jeff Bridges and daughter Taylor Bridges, his mother Janice Bridges, sisters Cherie Edmonds and Kim Farris, daughter-in-law Trish Bridges, granddaughters Anna and Heidi Bridges, grandson Jace Bridges, nephew Kyle Edmonds and ex-wife Dawn Bridges.
