Jetty Morris Barnhill

March 10, 1930 — December 19, 2020

Jetty Joyce Morris Barnhill was born in Bowie, Texas, March 10th, 1930 and peacefully left this life on December 19, 2020 in Humble, Texas.  She lived in the Spring Branch area of Houston for many years.

Her early childhood years were in Richards, Texas where she loved running in the dirt streets with her girlfriends and most especially going to meet the train to purchase fresh bread when it made its stop.  She also liked to see who was getting on and off the train!  The family moved to Houston when she was entering fifth grade.  It was there Jetty met D.W. They became sweethearts in fifth grade and that romance continued all the way through school and beyond.  She was a graduate of Reagan High School and in the Reagan Redcoats drill team receiving an award for Outstanding Redcoat.  After working awhile at Gulf Oil Company, she married D.W. in 1950.  They were married 61 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Barnhill, and her parents, Gordon and Lona Morris. Jetty is survived by her children and their spouses:  Jan Philp (Joe) and Mark Barnhill (Susan); two grandchildren, Addison Rhudy (wife Jessica) and Brittany Barnhill; one great grandchild Zeke Rhudy.

Faith, church, and family were all very important to her.  Most importantly, she trusted Christ as her Savior at age 11 and was baptized in a water tank (for livestock) in Richards, Texas.  Jetty and D.W. were active members of Spring Woods Baptist Church for many years.  Jetty also volunteered on a regular basis at First and Second Baptist Churches in Houston.  However, it was her love for children that led her to volunteer many hours of her time at a Spring Branch elementary school.

She will be remembered for her love of the Lord as well as having a generous heart and willingness to help others.

Due to the pandemic, there will only be a graveside service on December 26 at 1 pm. in Alvord, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Spring Woods Baptist Church, 10131 Emnora Lane, Houston, Texas 77080.
