Jack Harris

June 12, 1950 — July 28, 2017

Jack Allen Harris, 67, entered into eternal rest with our Lord on July 28, 2017. He was born on June 12, 1950, in Houston, TX. He leaves behind his long-time partner and best friend, Nell Von Horn; son David Orin Harris and daughter-in-law Cassandra Michelle Harris and three grandchildren Chason Bradley Harris, Colton Blade Harris and Conner Bryce Harris; a sister Shirley Hilton; a special niece Kimberly Ferguson; and other numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lilburn T Harris and Ada M Peed Harris; brothers Harold Harris, David Harris, and Jim Harris; and, sisters Evelyn Johnson and Mary Rice. Jack suffered a long hard battle with Diabetes and Spina Bifida, along with the many complications related to these debilitating diseases. Finally, Jack surrendered to his long, hard fight. He knew it was time and he was ready for whatever came next. During his life, he worked as a manager for various restaurants including, Winchell's Donuts, Dairy Queen, and other family restaurants. Later he became a "Certified" Security Officer and he was so proud of his accomplishment. He was a very good Security Officer until his health conditions prohibited him to continue his work. He loved children and his capacity to be gentle would surprise many. He also displayed much patience with children and his ability to love unconditionally was a trait that many of us would only hope to reach. Jack enjoyed life and he was an enthusiastic wrestling fan... there was never a dull moment in the house whenever he watched wrestling episodes on television... it was party time, for every wrestling event! He was very fond of country music, watching various movies, playing bingo, taking road trips and eating barbeque (and ham), and he was a professional jigsaw puzzler ... at least it seemed like he was... he loved putting together countless number of puzzles, in a short period of time! He also decorated his home with those puzzles, too! Jack was a great man and he added so much sunshine to our lives. He will be greatly missed.
