Franklin Stewart

June 20, 1933 — March 21, 2023

Franklin (Frank) R Stewart passed away peacefully at home March 21, 2023. A Celebration of his life will be held at 3pm, Friday, April 14, 2023, at Resurrection Metropolitan Church, 2025 W. 11th St, Houston, TX 77008.

Frank was born in Vernon, TX on June 20, 1933. He graduated from Vernon High School and received a basketball scholarship but chose to join the Marine Corps in 1952. Frank was a proud Marine and served during the Korean War with his two brothers, Bryan, and Dave. After his military service, he joined his older brother Bryan in Houston, Texas. It was a lifelong blessing in doing so for he met Millie Hudson, his future wife of 60 years while attending his brother’s church.

Frank attended the University of Houston and received a BS in Engineering and remained a lifelong Houston Cougars alumnus. He segued into the insurance business in 1960 when he and wife, Millie, formed Stewart Insurance Agency. Together they operated a successful business for almost 50 years until retirement in 2009.

Frank lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed time with close friends bowling in the church choir bowling league, traveling internationally, camping in West Texas, and fishing in Galveston Bay. He loved flying friends, in his Bellanca Viking, to the Yucatan to fish or to the U of H Cougars SW conference football games. He also loved to golf and could be found on the golf course every Wednesday with his regular golf compadres.

Frank's greatest love was time with his family. He loved the Stewart Family reunions, vacations with Millie, daughter Katy, and adopted parents Clarence & Hazel Hudson, Millie’s parents. His happiest times were spent with his grandson Dustin whom he cherished with all his heart.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Millie) Stewart, parents William Bryan Stewart and Clara Stewart, sister Mary (Stewart) Mathis, and brother Bryan Stewart. He is survived by daughter Katy Whelan, grandson Dustin Whelan, son-n-law Charles Edwards, brother David Stewart, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.
