William Glen Swenson, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on January 24, 2026. Will was born on August 15, 1989, to Sandy and Bill Swenson in Houston, Texas. Will graduated from Stratford High School in 2008. Will earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors from the University of Houston Hilton School of Hospitality Management in 2014. During high school and college, Will had several jobs. Probably his favorite was working at Tres Market where he greeted people with a smile, showed respect to all and baked great lemon bars. After graduation from UH, he worked for several oil field services companies in Midland and then moved back to Houston in 2020. At the time of his death, Will worked for Valverde Minerals in Houston.
Throughout his childhood, Will enjoyed many hours playing football and baseball at the SBMSA fields where he met friends that became more like brothers. Those friendships lasted throughout his life. He was blessed to play on five SBMSA championship teams and two more that came close. Those teams included the Wildcats, Dragons, Irish, Mules and Bulls. He was also blessed to be coached by a great group of coaching dads, including his dad, Bill.
During elementary and middle school, Will attended Camp Longhorn in the summer where he could be in his element and not put on a shirt for days at a time. He was a Campfire Lighter and enjoyed sailing, shooting, cabin raids and the blob. He also served as a counselor at Camp Longhorn during college. Will was a lifelong Texas Longhorn football fan and enjoyed attending many games in Austin with his parents and friends. Those games were usually followed by a fun dinner to celebrate at Matt’s El Rancho. He also cherished the memories of attending back-to-back UT Rose Bowl victories in 2005-06 with his family.
Will loved contact sports. While at Stratford, he played guard and center in football and defenseman in lacrosse and played a vital role on several successful Spartan teams in both sports. During and after his years at Stratford, Will developed a special bond with a large group of friends. Those friendships remained strong through the years. Will also made a lot of new friends while living in Midland. He treasured all his friendships and did everything he could to keep them strong.
Will enjoyed playing golf with his buds and, sometimes, with his parents and the family dog, Maisie. He liked playing at all kinds of places from country clubs to municipal courses in Houston or west Texas to different golf vacation spots. Will enjoyed it because he got to spend time with his friends and family. He also cherished his hole-in-one on No. 17 at Escondido Golf Club while playing with Sandy and Bill. He was so excited when he saw it go in, he must have a jump almost a foot off the ground. Will also enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends in Brownwood and Baffin Bay. He didn’t always kill the most birds or catch the most fish, but he kept everyone smiling and happy with his sense of humor and easy-going nature.
Probably the greatest joy of Will’s life in the last few years was being the most fun uncle ever to Campbell and Jack White and godfather to Kirby Mraz, along with a half dozen or so other children of his close friends. He loved and doted over them like they were his own. Will showed patience, joy and kindness and always brought fun birthday gifts. Truly uncommon traits for a 36-year-old bachelor, but Will was still kind of a kid at heart. He also loved dogs. Family dogs, friends’ dogs, dogs on the street, full breeds, mixed breeds, it did not matter, Will loved them all and they returned the love.
Will professed his faith in Jesus Christ during confirmation at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church while in middle school and attended mission trips to Mexico, Arizona and Galveston. He was a member of MDPC at the time of his passing. Will was caring and compassionate and never met a stranger. He made new friends easily and generously helped those in need. He was funny, fun-loving, mischievous, slow to anger, forgiving, patient and loyal. Will blessed and touched many with those qualities and those acts will be his legacy.
Will is survived by his parents Sandy and Bill, his sister and brother-in-law Kate and Stewart White, his niece Campbell White, nephew Jack White, aunt Kayla Swenson, cousins Clark Swenson and Stephanie Kelly and uncle Chuck Sudduth. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patty and Glen Swenson and Charles and Betty Jo Sudduth, uncle Tom Swenson and cousin Blake Swenson.
The family will gather to celebrate and remember Will at a Celebration of Life reception at Lakeside Country Club from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on February 10, 2026, and a Memorial Service at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am on February 11, 2026.
In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, the family invites you to honor Will’s memory through a gift to The Will Swenson Legacy Fund at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, which will be directed to dog rescue and adoption, children in need and other worthy causes close to Will’s heart.
