Vivien Hobart

The life of Vivien Watkins Hobart was a full and blessed journey. She was born and raised in the small farming town of Carlisle, Arkansas in 1924. As a child, she began school at a small teaching prep school on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, until her mother and aunt decided to move to Houston Tx in 1930. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School, then graduated from Lamar High School in 1943, and went on to attend the University of Houston from 1944-45. She then went to Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, where, at the invitation of a friend in New York City, traveled to and lived in the Big Apple for a year, and attended Interior Design School there. When she moved back to Houston, she became interested in community theater, and started acting at the Houston Little Theater, with roles in productions of The Tempest, Mid Summer Night's Dream, Fatal Attraction, Cry Out Cassandra, The Millionaires, and others. It was there, in 1948, that she met her future husband, Franklin Russell Hobart, who was in charge of lighting on the set. They were married in January of 1952 in Lake Charles, LA. In the fall of that year, she gave birth to her first-born son, Shelby. Two years later, her son Kevin was born. Vivien was one of the most caring persons one could ever hope to know, a devoted wife and mother, who was always placing the needs of others above her own. She is survived by her two sons, Shelby and Kevin, daughter-in-law Debby, granddaughter Jennifer and her son Vivaan, grandson Matt, and an extended family, including Donna and Steve Webb, and their sons, Colin and Carrie.
