Thomas Curran, Jr.

Thomas passed away on July 10, 2021 with his loving wife by his bedside.

Tom was a unique man with many interests. He loved history, all kinds of music, photography and traveling. No one was safe when he had a camera in his hand and there was no occasion when he didn’t need to take a picture.

Thomas was born on October 14,1950 in Stratford, Connecticut to T. Bailey and Phyllis Scott Curran.  He was raised in Stratford, graduating from Saint Joseph High School in June, 1969 and attended Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He later transferred to Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, graduating in June, 1973.

Thomas moved to Houston, Texas in 1975, commencing on a 39 year career as a commercial underwriter for various insurance firms. He retired from Zurich North America in 2015.

For the past 28 years, Thomas was an active member at Saint Cyril Catholic Church. Tom worked as a Eucharistic Minister, and Lector, as well as participating and leading ACTs Retreats. As a Eucharistic Minister he also worked to bring the Eucharist to residents of nursing homes.

Thomas was active with the Saint Cyril Knights of Columbus Council 8024 assisting in their various charitable programs.

He volunteered with “Interfaith Ministries of Houston” by participating in the “Meals on Wheels” program by helping to distribute meals. In addition, Thomas also assisted with the Interfaith Ministries Refugee resettlement program.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Sharon Fitzgerald Curran, his sisters Honora Diaz (Porfirio Diaz) of Houston, Elizabeth Scarpitti  (Vincent Scarpitti) of Cape Elizabeth, Maine as well as many nieces and nephews in Houston and New England. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Fitzgerald and her son Nick Matthews of Falls Church, VA.

The funeral mass will be at St. Cyril of Alexandra Catholic Church, 10503 Westheimer, Houston TX 77042, at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 28th.
