It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia Palomo on December 24, 2020 in Houston, Tx at the age of 70.
Sylvia is survived by her siblings, Maricela Vargas and Raul Torres Jr; Sons, Mark Anthony Palomo and Adam James Palomo; Grandchildren, Melissa Marie Luna, Jacob Thyil Palomo, Andrew James Palomo, Ava Helena Palomo and Victoria Sarah Palomo.
She is preceded in death by her Father, Raul Torres (October 18, 2010); Husband, Jimmy Palomo (June 11, 2011); Daughter, Christine Marie Palomo (January 31, 2014) and Mother, Aurora Torres (July 16, 2020).
Sylvia Palomo was born on September 16, 1950 in Tamaulipas, Mexico. She graduated in 1969 from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Tx. Sylvia met her husband Jimmy Palomo in 1968 at a Church Youth Dance and married in 1970. She began working for Texas Children’s Health Plan in the Summer of 1997. Sylvia graduated from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management on September 15, 2007. In 2013, she retired from Texas Children’s and received her certificate from Galena Park ISD to fulfill her love for teaching. Sylvia began substituting for GPISD elementary bilingual classes and then teaching adults in ESL for Harris County Department of Education.
Sylvia devoted her life to serving God and the Catholic Church, from Eucharistic Ministry, Catechesis, Youth Ministry and Retreat coordinator.
Everyone who knew Sylvia will always remember her radiant smile, contagious laugh and love for God. Her memory will stay alive through her family, friends, co-workers, students and anyone’s life she has inspired.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, January 2nd, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church 827 Sheldon Rd, Channelview, TX 77530. A public viewing will take place at 9am with mass to follow at 10am. Masks are required and maintain social distancing.
