Obituary

Selma Kehoe, age 65, passed away peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas, on April 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a deeply caring nature.

She was born in Bahia, Brazil, where her life began with roots that would shape her warmth, resilience, and character. Throughout her life, Selma carried those qualities with her, touching the lives of everyone she met.

Selma was a devoted wife and mother, a cherished member of her family, and a friend to many. She had a warm heart and a generous nature, always putting others before herself. She will be remembered for her happiness, her strength, and the way she made people feel welcomed and loved.

She had a passionate love of golf, which brought her both joy and connection with others. She was an extremely fun person who brought a special energy to every gathering, and her presence could light up any room. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

She was preceded in death by her father, Armando Ferreira; her mother, Maria de Lourdes Bomfim Ferreira; her sister, Cristina Mamede; and her nephew, Marcelo Mamede.

Selma is survived by her loving husband, Gerry; her loving daughter, Alexa and her fiancé, Chris; her brother, Armando, his wife, Olegaria, and their daughters, Ana Clara and Marcela; her niece Fernanda, her husband Carlos Andre, and their daughter Amanda; her niece Daniela, her husband Vinicius, and their daughter Julia; her brothers-in-law Waguinho, Larry, John and his wife Linda, and Pat; her sister-in-law Mary, her husband Paddy, and their sons Shane, Patrick, and Conor; as well as many extended family members and close friends around the world, all of whom will carry her memory with them always.

Selma Kehoe – Eulogy

I would firstly like to welcome and thank you all for being here.

Seeing so many people here today, as well as receiving all the messages from those who are not here, says everything about Selma. Furthermore, it will be hard for me to describe her any better in a eulogy, than in the way in which each one of you knew her, and will remember her.

I will try to take you through the life Selma and I built together—from when it all began.

I was recruited in Ireland by an international oilfield services company, and in September 1980, I was assigned to Catu, in the state of Bahia, in northern Brazil, Selma’s home town.

That’s where I met Selma, and that’s where we started our life, together.

Selma was about to turn 20, and I was about to turn 23. Selma was vibrant, excited, beautiful, in love, and so was I.

Our bond was our love, because neither of us spoke each other’s language.

We were married on July 2nd, 1983.

In July 1984, we moved to Great Yarmouth in England—our first venture together out into the bigger world.

In June 1988, as we were preparing to move from England to Egypt, our wonderful daughter Alexa was born, Selma and I were so proud and so happy.

In January 1991, we moved to Mexico. This was where Alexa attended her first school, making it such an exciting time for Selma.

In August 1993, we moved to Grantham in England. Selma made many new friends just like everywhere else, and was able to have a little more time to play golf while Alexa was at school.

In May 1995, we moved to Neuquén in Argentina, one more new and different environment.

September 1997 took us to Venezuela. We made many new local friends, as well as many from the large international community.

September 2001 took us to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Selma's life was dedicated to Alexa, between school, horse riding lessons, ballet lessons, sleepovers, and everything else that came with that stage of life.

In March 2004, we moved to New Orleans Louisiana, our first time actually living in the United States. By this time Alexa was already in boarding school in England, so Selma was about to take her golf, and her socializing with her friends, to another level.

In 2007, we moved to Houston and found our wonderful home and community here in Royal Oaks. Selma just loved every minute. Her true passions came out; golfing, shopping, gym, meeting her friends, new and old, while participating in every possible social event there was.

Our international working career was not over. In 2012, we moved to New Delhi, India for a short period, followed by a further five years in Dubai. Selma won several golf tournaments at the renowned Emirates Golf Club. One more wonderful chapter in our lives.

Selma took every move with courage and excitement, embracing people and cultures, learning to cook new types of food, dressing up to suit local occasions, and making new friends that she would never forget.

Selma was always so passionate about her golf, extremely competitive and strictly by the rules. She was very proud of her Hole in One, and also by the fact that she is the reigning Ladies Champion here at Royal Oaks.

Selma adored family, and I would like to make a special mention for her brother Armando who cannot be here today. She loved all her extended family in Brazil, as well as her adopted extended family in Ireland.

Retirement for me came in September 2018, followed by seven incredible years of enjoying life to the full—with constant trips to Ireland, Brazil, and London, as well as visits to Mexico, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Azerbaijan.

Then, on November 21st, 2025, at 1:15 in the afternoon, we were told that Selma had a very aggressive form of cancer.

After a five-month battle, she passed on Thursday last, at about 10:30 in the morning, with Alexa and me by her side.

Looking back, it wasn’t the places that mattered—it was what Selma took to each place and made a home for us. No matter where we were, Selma built a life—through friends, family, and the way she connected with people.

It was Selma who made that life so special.

Thank you all for being part of it, and, thank you again for being here today.
