Sam Shultz

December 28, 1938 — February 17, 2019

Samuel "Sam" Reneau Shultz, age 80, suddenly passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17th 2019, at his home in Tomball, Texas.

He was born on December 28th 1938 in Houston, Texas at St. Joseph Hospital in "The Heights", were he was raised. His parents, Lottie Lobland and Otto Shultz, brother Delbert, and son Kevin, precede him in death. He was married to Jackie Sawyer Shultz for many years and raised three children together. His three surviving children - Rhonda Tobin, Renee Zawacki and Brittany Spacek, will forever remember Sam, along with his son-in-law, Herman Zawacki, whom he considered his own son.

His five grandchildren - Karli Zawacki Moore, Trevor Zawacki, Dylan Tobin, Millie Spacek and Mylie Spacek, also survive Sam. He had several nieces and nephews: Leah, Mark, Blake & Amber, along with a lasting childhood friendship with Paul McCready and a special bond with Francis Erwin, among others who crossed his path in life.

At the age of 18, Sam enlisted into the US NAVY and served four years as a "Morse Code Operator", serving on the USS Hancock (CVA-19). He traveled all over the seas as well as to Japan. He loved to share stories about time spent in the military and his love for his country was evident. Other interests included cars and fishing. Sam Shultz spent many years living along the Gulf Coast, mainly on the Bolivar Peninsula, where he enjoyed coastal living. He lived a full life.

A Military Service will be held on Tuesday, February 26th at 1:45 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
