Obituary

Ronald Dean Lord passed away at the age of 84. His was a life well lived, filled with faith, love, and service. Ron was born in Houston, Texas, to Alene and Jim Lord. He graduated from Sephen F. Austin High School and Southern Methodist University where he was in the SMU band and a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Ron met Christie Enderle on a blind date during their college years. That led to a love story that lasted a lifetime. They were married on February 6, 1965. During their early years of marriage, Ron served as a Public Affairs officer in the United States Air Force. His military service was an important chapter in his life. Ron and Christie began their family while stationed in Riverside, California where they welcomed their daughter, Hillary. This assignment was followed by two years in the Western Pacific island of Guam. After leaving the Air Force, the family moved to Richardson, Texas where the birth of their son, Keith, completed the family. Being a husband and father was one of Ron’s most treasured roles, and he took great pride in his family.

He began his career in the oil and gas industry working as a technical writer in Dallas. He was employed by ARCO and Schlumberger before starting his own company, The Lord Group. Relocations sent him to Plano, Katy, Tulsa, and Sugar Land. Each move left the family with treasured friends and experiences.

Ron had a lifelong fascination with airplanes. That passion led him to earn his private pilot's license and fly his own Cessna Cardinal, which combined his love of aviation with his spirit of adventure. It also inspired a love of travel which created many wonderful memories.

A devoted Christian whose faith was reflected in the way he lived, Ron was an active member of Christ Church Sugar Land where he served a term as Chairman of the Administrative Board and sat on various committees throughout the years. He and Christie were a part of a Home Group that has been together for twenty years.

Ron had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. He loved to talk, talk and talk some more. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed many conversations with his Monday morning coffee group at Whataburger.

At home, Ron was the ultimate jack of all trades. He loved fixing anything and everything. His children grew up never realizing that hiring a handyman was even an option! Whether working in the yard or tackling a household project, he was always busy making things better.

Above all, Ron loved his family. The addition of his grandchildren was the joy of his life and brought endless hours of fun. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Christie; his daughter, Hillary Lord Rogers (Bill), and his son, Keith (Deborah). He was a proud grandfather to Emily Rogers Blacklock (Spencer); Blake Rogers (Emma); and Caroline and Christopher Lord. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Kevin Holcomb, as well as nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alene and James Lord and his mother-in law and father-in-law, Shirley and Buford Enderle.

After a private burial, a memorial service celebrating Ron's life will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church Sugar Land, 3300 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, Texas 77479. A reception will follow at the church.
