July 26, 1946 — November 20, 2023

Houston

Richard “Dick” Dean Kingery, lovingly known as POP, 77, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home November 20, 2023, after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

He was born July 26, 1946 in Albia, Iowa to Robert and Vivian (Louis) Kingery.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Priscilla Diane (DeWitt) Kingery, and daughter, Ami (Kingery) Rapp and 3 grandchildren, Robert Rapp 11, Caroline Rapp 11, and Vivian Rapp 7. He is also survived by two sisters, Janice Barrier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cathy Kingery of Rathdrum, Idaho, two brothers, James (Paulette) Kingery of Agency, Iowa, Jeffrey (Sheryl) Kingery of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and brother-in-law Anthony (Ginger) DeWitt of Opelika, Alabama.  He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vivian Kingery, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, and his son-in-law, Kevin Rapp of Houston, Texas.

Dick graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1964 and then joined the U.S. Navy.  His service included the Vietnam War, USS Ticonderoga, and the Philippines.  He was proud of his service to his country.  He was honorably discharged (E-5) April 1, 1971.

After 33+ years in the oil well services industry, Dick retired March 31, 2015 as a senior log analyst from the ProTechnics Division of Core Laboratories.

Dick was an Astros fan and liked watching drag racing.  He was handy, like his father.  He took pride in being able to build or repair almost anything.  He loved woodworking, playing golf, playing cards with the Kingery clan, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.  He loved to help with sports and cheer on his favorite players, Robert, Caroline and Vivi.  He will be remembered for his sense of humor and outgoing personality.

Private graveside services with military honors will be held January 4, 2024 at the Houston National Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s home, the afternoon of January 5th.  All are welcome.  Please join us for food and happy stories of Dick’s adventures.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends contributions in Dick’s memory to Wreaths Across America – Houston (https://waahouston.com) or MDAnderson Cancer Center (https://gifts.mdanderson.org).
