Rena Marie Andrews, age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born on November 5, 1936, in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Walton DeRouen and Elina DelaHoussaye. She was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High School. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager her entire working life until she retired at age 62. Rena truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to dance and to travel. She was proud of her Cajun heritage which gave rise to her life motto, "Cajun tough and made of good stuff." Her friends described her as a perfect blend of sweetness and strength, always a lady, and an inspiration. Her family would strongly acknowledge that she could be stubborn, but this served her well in the challenges that were present in her life, and was part of her charm.
Rena lived out her vocation as a devoted mother who raised several children on her own. Along with son, Todd Andrews , she reared two step-children, Johnny Andrews and Sue King, and niece, Pat Bourque. Rena had a strong faith and was part of the ACTS Catholic Prayer Community and helped spread God's word. She became very involved with Cathedral in the Pines Christian Singles 25 years ago and developed a second family of amazing people whose friendship enriched her life tremendously. She had an uncanny ability to touch people, especially with her warm smile and her welcoming spirit. This served her well in this ministry of service.
Rena is survived by her loving and devoted son Todd Andrews, M.D., daughter-in-law Nicole Andrews, her two sisters, Lola Smith and Mary Alice Bailey, stepchildren Johnny Andrews, Sue King, nieces and nephews Pat Bourque, Bobby DeRouen, Terry Crews, Brian DeRouen, Kim Hebert, Mary Elizabeth LaPointe, Ann Romero, Brad Romero, Sr., and her grandchildren, Brandon Andrews, Alexander Andrews, Jessica Garrett, Krysti Miles, Kyle King, and Deidra King. She was loved by all who knew her and affectionately known as "Mamaw" by her grandchildren and their friends as well.
Family, friends and others whose lives Rena touched are invited to Mass in her honor at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd, Houston, Texas 77098, on February 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., followed, immediately after, by a Celebration of Life event at the Andrews' Home to reminisce, cry, laugh, listen to "50's music", eat and support each other as we grieve the loss of this amazing woman.
