Obituary for Rassambs Wende Mathias Koama

Rassambs Wende Mathias Koama was born on April 26th, 1986 to Koudbi Francois Koama and Pende Kabore Koama in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso where he also attended school. Wende, as many knew him, came to the United States in the 2000’s and eventually settled in Houston, Texas where he met his wife, Torria Shana Harrington. They were married on May 20, 2013, and welcomed Francois Shane Koama, their only child, on May 6, 2014. Wende was so overjoyed at the birth of his son, and those who knew Wende, knew how deeply he loved and cherished his family and son. He enjoyed playing soccer with his son and introducing his family to several interesting African dishes. He was also active in every facet of his son’s life and joyfully attended events. He frequently visited his son at school. He took his son to appointments and loved cheering him on at Ninja classes, basketball camp, and swim class. He also loved teaching his son to speak French and solicited guidance from Francois’ French teacher on how best to teach him.

Rassambs was baptized on August 7, 2022 by Jean Ouedraogo, Pastor at Agape Gospel Fellowship Church in Houston, Texas. He was an active worshipper at Agape Gospel Fellowship Church where he participated in the Men’s Ministry and often brought food and clothing to the youth. He had a heart of service, which showed in his daily actions. He was active in the Burkinabe Association where he volunteered and participated in activities, such as helping new members assimilate in Houston. Additionally, Rassambs helped family members, colleagues, friends and neighbors with cheer and enthusiasm.

Rassambs was struck and killed on June 19, 2023 around 10:40pm by one or more drivers who did not stop to render aid. Gratefully, a female driver who struck him went back to assist him and summoned medical assistance. Rassambs was preceded in death by his father, Koudbi Francois Koama, his sister, Noelie Koama Ouedraogo, and all his grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife Torria Harrington, son Francois Shane Benet Koama, mother Pende Koama, mother- in- law Laveldee “Niki” Harrington, father- in- law Wright Harrington, siblings Angel, Therese, Julienne, Emilienne, Laissayah, Marceline, Dieudonne, Odette, Florence, Eurodice, Solange, and Honorine Koama, a large extended family, and loyal friends. Wende will be dearly missed by his family, Church family, the Burkinabe Community, colleagues, friends, neighbors, and others. The family offers special recognition to the tireless support of Pastor Jean Ouedraogo and his friends Fidele Idogo, Rachid Barry, Clovis Compaore, and Posso Ganame.
