Patricia Louise Calder

       Patricia Louise Calder, 71, of Crosby, Texas, passed away on May 17, 2024.

       Patricia Louise Downs Calder was born on June 18, 1952 in Trona, San Bernardino County, California. She was the third child of Samuel Francis Downs and Louise Oral Hunter. She was married to Jay Ronald Calder for 41 years.

       Patricia lived in many places growing up. She spent time in Southern California and West Virginia, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she relocated with her parents to Puerto Rico, where she worked as a secretary. Later, she moved to Houston, Texas and attended court reporting school. Patricia eventually ended up in New Orleans where she met her husband Jay Ronald Calder. They were married and sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on November 20, 1982. They applied for adoption, and shortly after, their son, Alexander Calder, was born. She gladly gave up her job as a court reporter to become a full-time mother. He was the joy and focus of her life. She also had two other sons from a blended marriage. She considered all of them as her sons.

       Patricia had a passion for quilting. She made quilts for all her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Patricia was always so positive and did everything with a smile even though she suffered for most of her life with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served as the church librarian. She loved her family and all the joy they brought to her life.

       Patricia is survived by husband, Jay Ronald Calder, Crosby, Texas; her children Alex (Sarah) Calder, San Angelo, Texas; Hamilton (Sheena) Calder, Cypress, Texas; Jeff (Sarah) Calder, Saratoga Springs, Utah; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; her brother Dan Downs, Corpus Christi, Texas; her sister Linda Evans, Morristown, New Jersey; her brother Tom (Denise) Downs, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Patricia is preceded in death by her parents Samuel Downs and Louise Hunter.

       Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pine Trails Chapel, 14404 Kemrock Dr, Houston, Texas 77049. A viewing will be held at the same location at 10:00 am prior to the funeral. Interment will follow the funeral at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 606 East Clayton Street, Dayton, Texas 77375.
