Obituary

Patricia Ann Blackwell Songster left this life to join our Heavenly Father on June 21, 2026, after medical complications she had struggled with for many years. However, she never let her age define her, remaining active in the community, most recently completing the Master Gardener program. She was also an obedient follower of her Savior, Jesus Christ, as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than 50 years. Despite all of her accomplishments in this life, she was most proud of the eternal family that she created on this earth with her eternal companion, Hugh Songster.

Patty is survived by seven children and their spouses/partners: Christopher Hugh and Cynthia Songster, Heather Maughan and Charles Stautmeister Jr., Matthew Lane and Katy Songster, Sarah Louise deGraaf and Justin Handy, Paul Adam and Tamara Songster, Joshua Michael and Jennifer Songster, Micah Ammon Songster and Amanda Lavergne. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Price. Patty was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hughey Maughan Songster, and son Aaron Richard Hoyt Songster. Together, Patty and Hugh have 36 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Patty was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Anna Louise Mathis Blackwell and Herchel Hoyt Blackwell on September 21, 1945. She was raised across the United States with her family during her father's military career.

Patty graduated from Beauty School and was a Hairdresser, owned an Environmental Consulting company with her husband, but throughout her life seemed to gravitate back to the medical field as a receptionist/secretary for a pediatrician, nursing home care, and as a Med/Serg Floor Operations Clerk at Tomball Hospital, where she retired after more than 15 years to care for her husband. She had a servant spirit, often working multiple jobs, helping to make ends meet, as a Den Leader in the Scouting Program, multiple leadership roles in church service, but especially with youth and children. She will be remembered for embracing an eternal perspective focused on loving her family and the Savior, which could be seen by the smile she always carried.
