Millard (Sonny) Allyn Peeples, a native Houstonian, died on March 27,2023 at the age of 92. He was born October 21, 1930, to Allyn (Peeps) and Eunice Peeples and grew up in the Woodland Heights area. He attended Browning, Hogg and Reagan School sin Houston before studying electrical engineering at the University of Houston. He went to work at age 10 at his father’s Texaco station cleaning windshields, pumping gas and checking oil. He learned auto mechanics under his dad’s instruction at Peeples Garage on Airline. Southwestern Bell Telephone trucks were serviced there regularly and a friend helped Millard land a job with that company. Consequently, he had a rewarding 36-year career with Southwestern Bell, retiring early in 1987. Millard was the consummate do-it-yourself mechanic and all-round handyman who kept himself busy. In addition to tinkering with all things mechanical, he enjoyed boating, water skiing, motorcycling, camping and time with family.
Millard and high school sweetheart, Sue Moyers, married and had 3 children. Sue preceded him in death as did son David Allyn Peeples, his parents and sister Alta Battram. He is survived by daughter Paula and son-in-law Jim Waller, daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Mike Snyder, grandchildren Wayne Peeples, Matt Waller and wife Holli, Brad Waller and wife Kristin, Zach Waller, Gina Johnson and husband Brian and Garrett Snyder as well as nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. In keeping with Millard’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service.
