He was born in Chicago on 16 May 1949 at the Grant County Hospital in Chicago, IL, to Raymond E. Reilly and Irene Mary Cave, both 27, born in 1922. They divorced soon after Mike was born and Irene soon married Leo Francis Crocker, an Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) executive in 1951 and raised Mike in Saudi Arabia (SA) from infancy to adulthood. He had 4 half-brothers, KC who died in 1971 and surviving half-brothers Chris, Ken and Kevin. Mike died of a heart condition in Houston, Texas on 25 Nov 2012 where his friend Deborah Jones comforted him. Funeral arrangements were provided by Integrity Care, in Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his son John Oran Crocker (born 1971), John’s wife Lisa Michelle Gomez (born 01 Jan 1973) and their sons Aristides (born 2/2022), Evan Michael (born 9/2009) and Oran Sean (3/2012).
Mike spent his childhood in the Dhahran and Ras Tanura (RT) SA areas where his father worked as an executive for Aramco and his mother was a nurse. In his 600+ page book, Mike of Arabia, he captures these times growing up and into his 63 years in a vivid collection of short stories. He attended San Marcos Military Academy (SMA) from 1965-1968 but graduated from San Marcos High School, Texas, in the fall of 1968. There he met the mother of his son John who was born in 1971 and raised in Amarillo, Texas. Mike went to West Texas State College. Mike spent time in law enforcement in Texas and Florida after college and then back and forth to Saudi Arabia and working in real estate and property management with his father in Nacogdoches, Texas. He married Vicki Diane Muzika, his
long time Dhahran / RT girlfriend, around 1981 in Nacogdoches, Texas and divorced in Boulder, Co around 1992 (no children). In addition to being an accomplished author and story teller, Mike formed a club which evolved into the Aramco Brats, Inc., which united families who lived and worked in Saudi Arabia from the 1940’s to present, still going strong into 2026 with thousands of members. Among his other accomplishments, he was the US Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for History and Culture, Double Doctorate in Sociology and Law. Has written several other books on Saudi Arabia, produced award winning documentary of historical film and photos of HM King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud, founder of modern-day Saudi Arabia. Personal friends with Saudi Royal Family. Participant in Saudi Arabia Centennial, lived in Saudi Arabia from infancy to maturity. Total of about 35 years in Saudi Arabia. Considered as "Ibn Saud" expert by Saudi Government. Most of his writings and photography are located at the Georgetown University Library.
