On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Maurice B. Hundley Sr. passed into eternal rest.
Maurice was born on June 26, 1950, in Sedley, Virginia, and departed this life on January 20, 2026. He was the eighth child of nine—five daughters and four sons—born to the late Leon and Lillian Hundley.
Maurice attended the public schools of Courtland, Virginia, in Southampton County. During his early years, he was a member of Southampton A.M.E. Zion Church in Courtland, Virginia.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army Military Police and was honorably discharged in 1978. Maurice continued his education and graduated from Virginia State University in 1976 and Saint Leo University in 1982. He later worked as a Federal Corrections Guard and worked Private Security.
Maurice was a loving and devoted family man who deeply cherished his friends. He was known for his warm spirit and his love of fishing, which brought him great joy and peace.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved child, Maurice Hundley-Bailey; his brother-in-law, Norbert Collins, Silver Springs, M.D.; and his sister-in-law, Mert Hundley, Temple Hills, M.D. along with a host of nieces, nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends.
Maurice was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie Hundley.
A Special Thanks to all medical staff at Veterans Affairs Houston, Sara Robertson, Linda H. Minro, Marshia Conley, Mr. and Ms. L. Mims, Norbert Collins, William Whittiker, Sheila Bailey, Niecy Bowser, Mr. Willie, Janet Jackson, Elsie Thornton, Harrel Hundley and Bessie Hill.
Funeral services will be held on March 6, 2026 at
Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
The service will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early and line up in Lane 1. The VA kindly ask that you do not arrive any earlier, as this helps avoid any overlap or confusion with the service scheduled prior to our 1:30 PM gate time.
