Mary Hanna Renfro passed peacefully on November 5, 2024 at her home in Houston. Hanna was born on December 18,1939 in Austin, Texas. She attended Austin public schools and St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. She graduated from Austin High School in 1957. She attended University of Texas and later finished her undergraduate degree at St. Edward’s University.
Hanna was a lifelong learner and helping professional. She returned to school as an adult and became a certified Montessori teacher. Later she became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), then obtained her Master of Counseling Psychology (MEd.) at University of Houston, and worked as an LPC with chronic pain patients. She also became a Licensed Massage Therapist later in life.
Hanna enjoyed helping people and before all her educational endeavors, she volunteered at the Junior League of Houston. She loved her life playing tennis at the Houston Racquet Club and during family vacations on Lake McQueeney, as well as at the bay house near Palacious, Texas. However, returning to school, she said, was a revelation and a blessing. She realized she was smart and that she could persevere.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Renfro, her older brother Joe, her twin, David, and husband, John Brockenbrough. Hanna is survived by her children Key Selvig and husband Scott, daughter Andrea Henderson and grandson Will Henderson, and son Braxton Brockenbrough as well as nieces and cousins.
