It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Chavez at the age of 82.
She passed peacefully in her sleep during the early morning of July 13th at home in Crosby, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Maria Luisa Carrizosa; her brother Louis Carrizosa, Jr., and sisters Armida Olvera and Billie Arroila. Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 58 years, Benjamin Chavez, Sr.; their three children and their spouses, Benjamin Chavez, Jr., Richard Chavez and wife Kimberly Higgs Chavez, Susan Chavez Posado and husband Michael Posado, Sr.; their five grandchildren, and great grandson.
Originally from Los Angeles, California and growing up in the SouthBay area, she loved the beautiful coastline and her Redondo Beach. Great memories were made. Later in her early adult years, she married the love of her life. They would continue to live in California and raise their children. Mary Lou and her husband Benny, Sr., moved to Texas in 1981 with their three children. She was a homemaker before working in the high school cafeteria as the head baker for the district and retired from Crosby ISD after several years. Mary Lou was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, assisting with adoration and helped clean the church candles in the narthdex for many years. She shared with her mother and family a deep faith in God, that included a devotion to Mary & St. Jude. In many of their family gatherings they would pray the rosary together. A gift passed on to her family.
Mary Lou was a loving wife and mother, beloved Nana to her grandchildren, and a welcoming host to everyone who visited their home. She enjoyed cooking for her family, eating ice cream, laughing with her husband and finding joy in life. Mary Lou will be greatly missed by family, friends, and her community.
