Margot Anne Newton

Margot Anne Newton, aged 74, passed away suddenly on January 14, 2024. Born on November 11, 1949, in Montclair, NJ, Margot's life was as colorful and diverse as the many cats and birds she cherished.

She spent her formative years in Bellaire, TX, attending Bellaire High School, and later pursued higher education at the University of St. Thomas. Her professional life was marked by working at a local doctor's office, where she brought comfort and care to many.

She found love and companionship in her husband of 30 years, Michael William Stright. The couple made their home in Houston, TX.

Passionate about politics, and a lifelong Democrat, Margot had a keen interest in current affairs, often engaging in lively discussions with friends and family fueled by her favorite news channels, CNN and MSNBC.

Margot had a great love for all animals. Over the years, she adopted many cats and birds, including a colony of feral cats that she endeavored to bring into her home.

In her youth, Margot enjoyed scuba diving and ice skating. With Mike, she cherished their annual visits to the Historic Homes Tour in Galveston, a testament to their shared appreciation for the history and architecture of the area.

Margot was captivated by UFOs, a passion reflected in the unique names she chose for her birds, inspired by UFO-related themes. Each name was a playful nod to her out-of-this-world interest, and she delighted in explaining the stories or theories behind these names to anyone who would listen.

Margot leaves behind her devoted husband, Mike; her feline companions, Biggy and Sherwood; and her bird, Lazar, named, true to her nature, after a UFO theme. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Park and Geraldine Newton.

A memorial service is not planned at this time. Donations can be made to local animal shelters in Margot's memory, a fitting tribute to her lifelong love for animals. She will deeply missed by all who knew her, human and animal alike. Her light continues to shine in the hearts of those she touched.
