Margaret Wallace

June 7, 1949 — May 13, 2018

Margaret Jane Wallace passed away far too soon at the age of 68 in Houston on May 13, 2018 surrounded by family. Beloved by all she met, she was married to Stephen, sister to Dorothy (Bill), mother to son Christian (Sue) and daughter Sonia (Stephen), Nana to Emma, Meghan, Railay and Violet, all living in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Born June 7, 1949 in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada, Margaret was raised in Ontario's cottage country where her parents Norman and Violet Wallace owned and operated a resort for summer vacationers. In 1968 Margaret moved to the city to study nursing at the University of Ottawa. She married Denis Trudel in 1970 with with whom she had her two children Christian and Sonia. Later in life, as a single mother, she built a successful career for herself working in Canada's federal public services and through a work colleague met and later married Steve Wardlaw in 1995. A year later the couple moved to Lima, Peru where they lived until 2002, when they moved to Houston. After a posting to Singapore during 2009-2011, they returned to Houston where they currently reside. Margaret and Steve were able to indulge in their mutual passion for global travel, through which Margaret developed a special affection for the Provence region in southern France. She excelled in developing strong bonds of friendship with other women she met in the expat community wherever she lived. She also became a passionate devotee of quilting and has produced numerous works of art that now proudly reside in the homes of numerous family members. With the arrival of granddaughters Emma (2004), Railay and Meghan (2006) and Violet (2008) Margaret became a doting Nana, showering them with love and affection at the slightest opportunity. Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A gathering to remember Margaret will be held at Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe, Houston on Tuesday, May 22, 6:30-9:30 p.m. A short program of music and tributes will start at 7:30. A second memorial program will be held in Ottawa, Canada at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. on Monday, May 28, 1:30-5:00 p.m., with music and tributes starting at 2:00. For those wishing to make a charitable donation on Margaret's behalf, her family suggests the Houston Hospice or the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation http://www.houstonhospice.org/donate.aspx http://www.drmarnierose.org
