Madolyn Womeldorff Barnes, 73, of Houston, Texas, passed away on October 28th 2023 after a five month battle with cancer.Madolyn was born on June 3rd, 1950 to Jim and Esther Womeldorff in Little Rock, Arkansas.She attended the University of Arkansas where she pledged Chi Omega. In 1974, Madolyn met the love of her life, Tom Mackey Barnes at a church revival in Houston, Texas. Madolyn and Mackey were married on April 19th of 1975, and went on to have five children, Katherine Barnes Sasser, Sarah Elizabeth Barnes, Melissa Jane Barnes, Priscilla Grace Barnes, and John David Barnes.After her children were in college, she attended Houston Community College and obtained a degree as a pastry chef. She graduated with honors. Her business, Pastries by Madolyn, was a great example of her passion for baking and providing for others.Madolyn was a stay at home mom. She always wanted to be a mom, and she fulfilled this exceeding abundantly. She had a natural gift of nurturing, caring for others and providing joy. Madolyn desired to prepare and serve only the best for their growing family. She did this by the food she cooked for her family, but also with the constant giving of cakes and pastries for teachers, family friends, and loved ones in her life. Madolyn was the mom everyone wanted to have or to become.In 2019, her husband, Mackey, suffered a life altering stroke. She remained a constant source of encouragement and care to him and her children through these trying years. Mackey and Madolyn were married for 48 years.Madolyn raised her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Even during the trying months of her diagnosis, her faith in God’s provision never failed. Madolyn exemplified what it means to be a loving wife, a caring mother, and constant friend.
Madolyn is survived by Mickey and Mary Esther Miller of Little Rock, Arkansas, her husband, Mackey Barnes, and their five children.A short service will be held at the Houston National Cemetery on Friday November 3rd at 9 am.
