Obituary

Lynette Bode Edwards

With profound sadness and immense gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, our family announces the passing of Lynette Bode Edwards, who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 76.

Born on December 21, 1949, in Houston, Texas, Lynette lived a life defined by love, kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip William Bode Jr. and Virginia Antley Bode.

To us, she was Mom. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was Memaw. To her siblings, niece, and nephews, she was Sissy. To countless friends, she was Lynette. And to generations of children whose lives she brightened, she was affectionately known as Tappy the Clown. No matter what name she answered to, she had a remarkable gift for making every person she met feel seen, valued, and loved.

After courageously battling illness over the past several months, Lynette leaves behind a family forever changed by her love and a community made better simply because she was part of it.

She was the heart of our family—the steady presence who held us together through every joy, every challenge, and every season of life. Her love was unconditional, her kindness limitless, and her generosity knew no bounds. She never met a stranger and couldn’t go anywhere without being greeted by someone whose life she had touched. Whether through a warm conversation, a thoughtful act of kindness, or simply her infectious smile, Lynette had a way of leaving every person better than she found them.

Lynette shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Alan Edwards, building a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together they raised two sons, Michael Edwards and Shawn Edwards, and lovingly welcomed Shawn’s wife, Jackie, as one of their own. Family was always at the center of Lynette’s life, and she loved each member wholeheartedly.

Nothing brought her greater joy than being Memaw to her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she celebrated every milestone, every accomplishment, and every opportunity to spend time together. Her love for them was immeasurable, and the memories she created with them will be cherished for generations.

While balancing her career and raising her family, Lynette also devoted countless hours to bringing joy to children as Tappy the Clown. Through laughter, compassion, and a playful spirit, she created treasured memories for countless families. Children naturally gravitated toward her because they recognized what everyone who knew her did—her heart was genuine, joyful, and full of love.

Lynette is survived by her beloved husband, Alan Edwards; her sons, Michael Edwards and Shawn Edwards, and daughter-in-law, Jackie Edwards; her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Philip William Bode III, Tracy Bode, and Pat Pooser; along with many cherished extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her extraordinary kindness.

A faithful member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Lynette lived her faith through compassion, service, and unconditional love for others. Her life was a beautiful example of what it means to love generously and give selflessly.

There will never be another woman quite like Lynette. The world feels a little quieter without her laughter, and our family has lost the heart that held us together. Yet her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every child she made smile, every friend she encouraged, and every family member she loved so completely.

We are endlessly grateful for the years we were blessed to share with her, for the example she set, and for the love she gave so freely. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her kindness, compassion, laughter, and unwavering love will continue to live on through all of us.

Forever our Mom. Forever our Memaw. Forever our Sissy. Forever our Lynette. Forever our Tappy. Forever in our hearts.
