It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda L. White on July 3, 2025. She passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by family.
Linda is remembered as a loving matriarch, deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter Ami Lyn White, Ami’s two children Brianna Jones-White (Max) and Chase White, and Chase’s sons Damien White and Darien White; her grandson John Christopher White (Chris); her grandson Michael White and Michael’s son Kanan White; and her granddaughter Melissa White (Missy). She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, her husband of 65 years John C. White, her daughter Cathy Lyn White-O’Daniel, her son Steve White, and her son John M. White (Johnny). Linda's impact on her family's lives is profound, and her legacy of unconditional love will continue to resonate through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Linda led a remarkable life characterized by her unwavering dedication to family, friends, intellectual growth, and community service. As a spirited young woman, she embraced her roles as a devoted wife and mother to three children. When her husband, John, advanced in his career as an oil and gas executive, Linda often joined him at events to entertain clients and colleagues. These gatherings became the backdrop for forging lasting friendships with many of John’s clients and their spouses. By 1974, the couple had settled into a stunning home they designed and built together on five picturesque acres in Magnolia, Texas.
In the 1980s, Linda's interests shifted towards academia, prompting her to return to school. She attended Sam Houston State University, earning a Masters degree in psychology and she ultimately earned a PhD in adult education from Texas A & M University. During this time, she taught classes in psychology and philosophy at Sam Houston State University, some of which were taught in the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville. She remained close to many of her friends and colleagues at Sam Houston and Texas A & M Universities.
Linda was a woman of deep spiritual conviction, whose life was enriched by her active participation in her church communities. She devoted herself to the First Presbyterian Church in Tomball and later found a welcoming home at the Plymouth United Church in Spring. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir. Through music, she expressed her faith and connected with others, sharing her passion for uplifting melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Linda's outreach to fellow church members was a testament to her character. She built meaningful relationships, offering her wisdom and friendship to those around her. Her love and kindness will long be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
By the 1990s, Linda developed an interest in issues concerning social justice and she became active in Restorative Justice initiatives such as Peacemaking Circles and Victim Offender Mediation. She also volunteered with the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth. For the remainder of her life, Linda tirelessly promoted the missions of these organizations, fighting for the rights and dignity of individuals affected by the criminal justice system. Her dedication created a lasting impact, fostering deep, life-long connections with many participants, who valued her compassion and commitment and earning the admiration of numerous individuals for her unwavering support and advocacy. Linda's legacy is a testament to her belief in the power of community and the importance of restorative practices in achieving true justice. Her work continues to inspire those who strive for a fairer and more equitable society.
We bid farewell to Linda, a remarkable woman whose legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. She will long be remembered as a brilliant, outgoing, compassionate woman who lived a life of devotion to her family, friends, and community. Though she will be greatly missed, her spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Linda’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 1:00 pm at Plymouth United Church located at 5927 Louetta Road, Spring, TX 77379. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth cfsy.org or Plymouth United Church plymouthunited.org.
