Librado Martinez (“Lyle”) went to his heavenly home April 2026. He was born on April 11, 1964, in General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Pura (Cantu) Martinez, sister Pura (Martinez) Ramirez, and brother Ricardo Martinez.
He is survived by Angela (Salazar) Martinez, Houston, TX; children, Jennifer (Martinez) and Benjamin Prohl, Flint TX, Ashley Martinez, Austin, TX; 1 granddaughter, Emelina Prohl, Flint, TX; brother, Pedro (Pete) Martinez, Mexico; sisters, Juanita and Jimmy Lopez, Houston, TX, “Berty” and Jose Saucedo, Katy, TX, Rosa Castellano, Pasadena, TX, Norma and Meme Marroquin, Mexico. Lyle was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.
Lyle worked for over a decade at credit unions, Houston Energy Credit Union and Houston Federal Credit Union. He also enjoyed working in banking. Besides credit unions and banks, Lyle enjoyed drawing, gardening, and running. He was heavily involved with local races and helped with Bigfoot Running Company. He ran multiple half-marathons, at least two full-marathons, and many 5K and 10K races. He also was an avid Houston Astros and Houston Dynamo fan.
Besides his hobbies, Lyle was passionate about being a father to his daughters Jennifer and Ashley. He was so proud of them when they graduated high school and when they both graduated from college. Jennifer graduated from Texas Tech and Ashley graduated from University of Houston. Lyle also loved being “Abuelito” to his granddaughter Emelina. He always commented on all of her pictures and loved her blue eyes. He always told Jennifer that he knew she would have blue eyes.
Lyle loved his family, his teams, his running, and his Mexican American heritage. He was proud of where he came from and where his daughters have gone. Librado Martinez also loved the Lord, but more importantly, the Lord loved Librado. God the Father called him by name through His Son Jesus Christ. In baptism, Lyle was clothed with Christ’s righteousness and is now in the arms of his Savior for eternity.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day…” (2 Timothy 4:7–8a)
