Dr. Karen Nielsen, a distinguished Clinical Psychologist and Expert Witness for the SSA, passed away on January 30, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on April 7, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, her life was a testament to resilience, strength, and unwavering devotion to others. Still working in her field at the age of 82, Dr. Nielsen earned the admiration of her colleagues and all who knew her professionally. Her strong personality left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Karen's true source of strength and joy lay in her family. She is survived by her daughters, Cresti Lake, Julia Collins, and Susan Collins, who continue to carry forth her legacy of love and determination. Karen's grandson, Trey Hernandez, held the most special place in her heart; she affectionately referred to him as "her boy." Her husband, Clyde “Dick” Robbins, preceded her in death. May her spirit live on in the hearts of those she inspired, and may her legacy continue to be a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the family’s foundation, recently established as a testament to Dr. Nielsen's and her family's commitment to creating opportunities for others. Condolences and contributions can be sent to NCH Opportunity Foundation c/o Karen Nielsen. 13850 Gulf Freeway, Ste 112, Houston, TX 77034. Services will be held in Council Bluffs at a later date.
