In Loving Memory of
Jon York Stansbury, 61, of Brookeland, Texas, passed away peacefully on the evening of May 22, 2025. He did not suffer, and he was not alone.
Born on July 26, 1963, in Orange, Texas, Jon was the eighth of nine children and the youngest of six boys born to the late Wilson James Stansbury and Marjorie Evangeline (Anderson) Stansbury. He was preceded in death by his Aunt Dot, Uncle Tubby, Aunt Theresa, Uncle Daniel, Uncle Leo, and Aunt Agnes on his mother’s side and Aunt Margie Lou on his father’s side. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Stansbury, longtime employee of the DPS; his brother, Stephen Stansbury; and his sister, Paula Mooneyham, the family's first angel.
Jon retired with pride from ExxonMobil after 22 years of dedicated service as an operator. Known for his leadership and attention to detail, he trained countless incoming employees and even authored a training manual that continues to serve as a guide for future generations. His legacy of excellence and mentorship left a lasting imprint on the company and the people with whom he worked.
Jon worked hard and played even harder. He was adventurous, endlessly creative, and one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. He never met a stranger. If he stopped by, your lawn would soon be mowed regardless of how many acres you had, or your garage would be organized. Helping others came naturally to Jon. From babysitting, carpentry, plumbing, and car repairs to cooking, organizing, problem-solving, party-planning, and dancing till dawn-Jon showed up with joy and left the people whose lives he touched better for having him in it.
He was a true outdoorsman who delighted in fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and island-hopping. Whether it was a day on the lake or an ocean adventure, Jon felt most alive surrounded by nature and the people he loved. A proud Dallas Cowboys fanatic, he never missed a game and always believed this would be their year. His passion for life was as strong as his loyalty to his team.
One of Jon's lifelong dreams was to visit every island mentioned in the Beach Boys' classic Kokomo. He nearly completed that journey with just one island left: Bermuda. This summer, he planned to visit it with his daughter, Candi, as part of a joint birthday celebration. Candi will still carry out that dream, traveling to Bermuda to spread some of his ashes-completing the adventure in his honor.
Jon is survived by his loving daughter Candi Kayne Stansbury and her daughters, Lilli, Hannah, Emma, and Summer; and son, Jonathan Andrew Stansbury.
He is survived by Susan's two sons, Caleb Lisenby, and his children, Chevelle and Preston; and Dyllon Leger and his wife, Kendal, and their daughters, Adalynn and Hallie.
He is also survived by his siblings: David and Carol Stansbury, Resa and Walter Woolman, Michael and Joanne Stansbury, Phillip and Kathleen Stansbury, Darryle Stansbury, Cheryle and William Mooneyham, and Sheila Stansbury, wife of the late Stephen Stansbury.
He is survived by one aunt from his father’s side, Aunt Totsie.
Jon leaves behind a large, loving legacy of nieces and nephews: Robin and Luke Herrin; Dale and Kara Stansbury; Darren Stansbury; Janet Woolman; Dr. Wade and Dr. Lindsey Woolman; Aaron Woolman; John Michael Stansbury; Tiffany Stansbury; Amber and Sean Schupbach; Adam and Brandy Stansbury; Andrew Stansbury; Luke and Kaycee Stansbury; Ben and Marissa Stansbury; Mitchell and Amanda Stansbury; Jacob Stansbury; Evangeline and Chelsea Burkart; Jacqueline and Quinton Singleton; Heather and Kyle Gillette; Kenneth and Crystal Stansbury; Holly Stansbury; Andrew Stansbury; and Sam Stansbury.
He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews, great-greats, and over 39 first cousins-24 on his mother's side and 15 on his father's. Family reunions were always large and full of love. Jon also leaves behind the Rayburn 100 family, many dear friends, and friends he considered family.
Jon was "Stan" the Man with a Plan-everyone's favorite uncle, neighbor, coworker, and friend. He was patient, generous, and full of life. His joy was infectious, his heart immeasurable, and his legacy unforgettable.
