Johnny Slovak, 84, of Stafford, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025. He was born on December 14, 1940, in Wharton, Texas, to the late John and Annie Slovak.
Johnny grew up in Wharton and spent most of his life in Houston. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Sam Houston State University and built a successful career in insurance sales and entrepreneurship. Over the years, he launched several ventures, most notably designing and building the popular Alief go-kart track—an attraction so beloved that visitors would often wait in long lines to ride. He also proudly owned and operated a 9-hole par-3 golf course, another testament to his creative spirit and love for community recreation.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Cartwright Slovak, and his four brothers Richard, Daniel, Sydney and BJ Slovak.
Johnny is survived by his children, David Slovak and Jonna Strantz (married to Jon Strantz), as well as his cherished grandchildren: Lance and Keith Klepper, Kregg Slovak, Maggie Weber, Rachel Slovak, Meggan St Nicholas, and Erin Larson. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
He will be remembered for his easygoing personality, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family. Johnny was always quick to lend a helping hand and enjoyed sharing his time, talents, and stories with those around him. He loved playing poker, golf, and shuffleboard, and especially enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Some of the family’s best memories were spent at Johnny and Anita’s Surfside beach houses, where the children learned to crab, play in the sand, and watch the sunsets.
Johnny will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. He will be cremated according to his wishes.
