Jay Haas

October 2, 1945 — January 20, 2019

Jay Dee Haas, age 73, passed away of a heart attack on January 20, 2019. Jay was bon on October 2, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to Dorothy Elizabeth and Bert Arthur Haas. Jay spent his early years in Dayton, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. The majority of his growing up years were in Richfield, Minnesota. He graduated from Richfield Highschool and attended college at Gusdavus Adolfus, University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota.
Jay was married to the love of his life, Luaina in 1966. They started their family in Minneapolis, Minnesota but have spent most of their married life in Houston, Texas. Jay was a natural leader, starting with JC Penney's, Conoco and President/ owner of Graphic Maps of Houston. He was loved by all who knew him.
How lucky Gretchen and Erich were to have Jay as a their dad. He was involved in all of their activities...whether it was girlly-girl activities or a tennis match he was always there for Gretchen. He was so proud of her accomplishments in real estate. He was Erich's biggest cheerleader in all sports and life. Jay was the President of the Athletic Booster Club at James E. Taylor Highschool.
Jay loved Lake Conroe where He and Lu had a condo on the lake. He spent hours with his family and friends in his boat. He always looked forward to taking his grandchildren to McDonalds for breakfast by boat!!
Jay loved to travel and shared this passion with Lu. His two favorite places to travel were Maui and the California wine country.
Jay is survived by his wife, Lu Haas; brother, Rob(Colette) Haas; children, Gretchen (Allen) Barrilleaux and Erich Jay (Kelley) Haas; grandchildren, Megan Barrilleaux, Austin Haas, Beau Barrilleaux, Dillion Haas and Reagan Haas; great- great-granddaughter, Blakely Barrilleaux and his much loved dog Emma.
The Memorial Service will Monday, January 28, 2019 at 2PM at St. Peters United Methodist Church Located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, TX 77450
In Lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Jay's name to the M. D. Anderson/Breast Cancer
