James Edwin Scoggan II, a beloved husband, father, friend, and musician, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on January 21, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana, but a lifelong Texas resident. James was the son of the late James and Florene Scoggan. He was also preceded in death by his brother David. He leaves behind his devoted wife Darlene and his loving daughter Erin.

James was a proud graduate of Beaumont High School in Beaumont, Texas, class of 1970. He earned his degree in Music at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas in 1974. His love for music was a guiding force throughout his life, leading him to a remarkable 40-year career with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. He was owner and luthier of The Violin Gallery stringed instrument sales and repair shop for many years as well.

James was a man of many interests and enjoyed canoeing, traveling, biking (bicycle and motorcycle), playing chess, and writing. He was a true bibliophile with several collections of books from his favorite authors. Known for his wit and humor, James had the uncanny ability to bring laughter into any room. His genuine kindness and playful spirit were constants in the lives of those fortunate enough to know him, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and Dad jokes.

In honoring James’s memory, his family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and dedication to helping others.

James Scoggan will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered, as his spirit and legacy continue to resonate in the hearts of those who loved and befriended him. May his music and memories provide comfort and joy to all who knew him.
