Helen Ann George passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord while surrounded by loved ones on September 3, 2025. A devoted follower of Christ, she cherished her relationship with God and took comfort in praying the rosary, particularly the Our Father prayer, and attending mass at Prince of Peace Catholic Church; her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in eternal peace in heaven.
Helen loved fiercely, and was known for her quick wit, Ferrari red manicures, love of fashion and jewelry, and signature sayings such as “fine and dandy.” A true hostess with the mostess, she loved entertaining family and friends, from hosting elaborate dinner parties with her husband to Christmas and Easter gatherings with loved ones. George family holidays were not complete without her signature cookie sheet cake. She recommended baking a double batch to keep one in the freezer at all times in case of unexpected company, and enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren this recipe and many others. She had a competitive side as well, best showcased at her bowling league, bridge club, progressive rummy, and darts in the leather room.
Helen was married to Bill M. George in Yuma, Arizona in 1949 and together they raised six children (Mike, Darrell, Darelle, David, Michelle, and Steve). They also had a son, Weldon Vincent, who passed shortly after birth due to complications, whom they honored and remembered all their lives. Bill’s work moved them overseas for over 25 years, where they traveled often and raised their children in locations such as Wassenaar, Holland, Lima, Peru, Quito, Ecuador, and Salvador Bahia, Brazil; though London, England always held an especially treasured place in their hearts. Helen loved entertaining Bill's colleagues and customers, taking them to the various factories in England and high tea at Harrod’s, a favorite tradition.
She was energetic and vivacious, walking several blocks to church each Sunday regardless of rain, snow, or sleet and knew London’s bus routes by memory. She was quick-witted and tenacious, never scared to speak her mind. An excerpt from a poem written by Bill states, “You are so very talented in decorating for each and every season; it is so obvious from the compliments we get; you’re the reason I am so proud that you do something for others every day; think how nice the world would be if others acted in this way.” In remembering her fierce love of family and friends, we join in celebrating Helen’s life and hope that we can all squeeze as much living into 97 (and nearly 98) years as she had. TO HELEN!
