In Loving Memory of Harold Eugene "Gene" Wilson

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Harold Eugene "Gene" Wilson announces his passing on July 20, 2026, at the age of 75.

Gene was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and moved to Houston, Texas, when he was just six months old. Houston remained his beloved home for the rest of his life.

A proud graduate of Reagan High School's Class of 1969, Gene went on to attend the University of Houston, where he studied Political Science while working full-time as a clerk for the Houston Belt & Terminal Railroad. Balancing work and school was not easy, but Gene's determination and strong work ethic carried him through. He also found time to pursue his love of travel, creating memories as he explored destinations throughout the United States and Europe.

In the late 1990s, Gene's career with the railroad led him to operating the Galveston Drawbridge for BNSF Railway, a responsibility he faithfully carried until his retirement in 2009. Retirement allowed Gene to enjoy the freedom and independence he valued, living life at his own pace and on his own terms.

Above all, Gene's faith was the foundation of his life. As a Christian, he sincerely sought to follow Christ each day. His email address, Seeking Christ, reflected not only his personal journey of faith but also his hope that others would seek Christ as well.

Gene was known for his sharp mind, love of reading, and remarkable memory. He could be wonderfully stubborn, yet those who knew him best also knew his compassionate heart-especially toward his mother, his sisters, and the many dogs he loved throughout his life. There always seemed to be a dog by his side, and he found great joy in their companionship. He lived life on his own terms, remained true to his convictions, and will be remembered with love by all who knew him.

While our hearts grieve his absence, we rejoice in the hope of God's promises and take comfort in knowing that Gene is now at peace in the presence of his Savior. We will cherish the memories he gave us and celebrate a life marked by faith, perseverance, curiosity, and compassion.
