Gilberto Lorenzo Ortiz

Gilberto Lorenzo Ortiz died on Monday, October 23, 2023, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Gilbert passed surrounded by his loving family after a battle with cancer. He put up a great fight. 

 

Gilbert L. Ortiz was born in Mission, Texas, on June 21, 1978, to his late parents, David Ortiz and Vicky Ortiz. He graduated from South Texas College with a degree in Computer Networking Specialist and was expected to graduate in the fall of 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Technology. He worked as an Information Security Analyst for the city of McAllen, Texas, for the past 13 years. 

 

Besides spending time with his beloved wife and his tiny family, his passions included his love of music and the performing arts. Gilbert was a skillfully talented entertainer, a stand-up comedian, an actor in movies and plays, and, let's not forget, his love for wrestling and playing in a rock band as a fantastic drummer alongside his best cousin/brother, Adrian Hernandez.

 

Gilberto L Ortiz is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy P. Ortiz, son Julian F. Ortiz (married to Janie Ortiz and granddaughter Juniper L. Ortiz), son Ozzy K. Ortiz, and brother David Ortiz Jr. (married to Lisa E. Ortiz).

 

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service on November 2, 2023, at 7:00 PM at the Historic El Cine Del Rey Theater, 311 S 17th St, McAllen, TX 78501. The theme is 'Dia De Los Muertos Celebration of Gilbert's Life!”
