Gary Dale Herring, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at his home in Houston, Texas surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on [date TBD]. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Camargo, Illinois.
Gary was born on March 24, 1942, in Gainesville, Texas, to Ruby Inez Watts and Howard Graham Herring. On November 17, 1967, he married Diana Lee Pleasant in Wichita Falls, Texas. Gary was a dedicated electrician and entrepreneur, founding his own company, Grimes County Electric and Refrigeration, in Navasota, Texas. His commitment to excellence and integrity defined his professional career, which included working at Cabot Corporation in Tuscola, Illinois, until his retirement in 2002.
Gary enjoyed camping, fishing also finding joy in gardening. He was known for his strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of life.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Gary cherished his family above all else. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lynne Flamm, his brother, Ronnie Gene Herring, his brother in laws, Donald Maurice Pleasant, Dave Leon Bennett, and Gary’s parents. In his final days, Gary found peace in his faith, eagerly anticipating a reunion with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beloved daughter, Donna.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Lee Pleasant of Houston, Texas; his children: Dawn Abad (Robert Abad) of Houston, Texas; Richard Herring (Jeanie Herring) of Tuscola, Illinois; Dana Killman (Dave Killman) of Davenport, Florida; Debbie Herring of Amarillo, Texas; Darla Duckwitz (Todd Duckwitz) of St. Joseph, Illinois; Randy Herring (Julianna Herring) of Cassopolis, Michigan; Ronald Herring (Laura Herring) of Liberty, Indiana; and son-in-law Richard Flamm of Springfield, Illinois. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Lynn Fisher of Wichita Falls, Texas, and sister-in-law, Maria Caballero Herring of Wichita Falls, Texas. Gary leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, embraced by his 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Gary Dale Herring will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who knew him.
