Frank Joseph Motycka, aged 96, passed away on July 5, 2025, in Kingwood, TX. Born on March 8, 1929, Frank dedicated his life to his family, education and his community.
Frank earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University, where he lettered six times in cross-country and track and was active in the SAE fraternity. Frank was drafted into the Army in 1951, where he quickly ascended to the rank of lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School. His leadership and dedication during his service were a prelude to his subsequent roles in education.
While stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana as an Athletic and Recreation Officer for the 37th Infantry Division, he was set up on a blind date with Audell Peavy who he later married on December 24, 1953. They were married 71 years until her death on February 21, 2025.
Frank embarked on a distinguished career in teaching, coaching and administration. He taught subjects including science, mechanical drawing, welding and wood shop at various schools in Ohio. His journey in Education continued in Texas, where he became the inaugural counselor at Groves Junior High. He obtained his Masters in Counseling from Northwestern State University in 1959. He later held principal positions at Taft Elementary and Port Neches Junior High until he retired in 1983.
Beyond his professional life, Frank was a deacon at Woodridge Baptist Church in Kingwood, Texas. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding his generous and selfless nature. Frank’s hobbies included gardening, fishing, traveling, passions that reflected his love for nature and discovery.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lea Ann Lovins and husband Kevin Lovins, Marilyn White and husband Mark White: two grandsons, Carter Lovins and Chase Lovins. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Audell Peavy Motycka, sisters, Helen Swinkey and Mary Simandle, brother, Lewis Motycka, and parents, Martin and Francis Motycka. Frank's legacy of dedication, both in his professional and personal life, will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
