Ellen Marie Wood

Ellen Marie Wood (nee Kirkendoll) passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at the age of 71. She leaves behind a loving husband (Orville), a son (Brent), daughter-in-law (Dee), 3 granddaughters (Nina, Sophia & Bella) and 3 fur babies (Dakota, Cheyanne and Luka).

Donating her time and resources to helping rescues and the needy was where she found the greatest satisfaction with her husband. A generous and fiery heart in all she did - quick to forgive and to anger - she kept things interesting indeed.

Ellen grew up with hard conditions but rather than break her, it taught her how to strive against the odds. Like all of us, she had her struggles, yet she still managed to raise a son that was able to rise above those hard conditions. For that he is thankful. And thankful that he had the chance to cultivate a good relationship for the last several years. Regretfully that has ended now but he will treasure the thought that they were close and hadn't left things unsaid.

She spent her career working on problems that required an attention to detail from check inspections through customs and logistics. Even retired, she would often pour over the details of everything put in front of her. She imparted that focus onto her son, and it has served him well. Early on she also fostered in him a love for horror novels and 70s disco music. I know... disco.

This 'Last Dance' was a tough one but now you can turn off the lights and go home. Sugarbear and Wizard (another pair of scrappy fur babies) preceded you and 'Heaven Knows' they got everything ready for your arrival with a squeaky toy ready for play and cool noses for nuzzling.
