Donna Freeman

September 3, 1929 — December 15, 2014

Donna L. Freeman of Katy, Texas, passed away on December 15, 2014, from leukemia. She was born on September 3, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas, where she was raised by her parents, Harold D. and Blanche Irwin. She attended Washburn University and Kansas State University. In 1949, she married Perry Eldo Moore and raised three daughters. The family lived in many places: Hugoton, Kansas; Garden City, Kansas; Pampa, Texas; and Midland, Texas. Donna married Rice Calvin Freeman in 1977 in Midland. Donna leaves three daughters: Sheri Leanne Sacco of Katy, Texas (husband Philip), Diana Lea Fickinger of Katy, Texas (husband Gary), and Janet Sue Harper of Tomball, Texas (husband Rick). Donna's grandchildren are Jason Sacco, Brian Sacco, Greg Fickinger, Kristina Toole, Mackenzie Reeves and Shawn Harper. Her great-grandchildren are Mia and Jennavieve Sacco, Mason Curtis Fickinger and Max Toole. Her husband Cal's daughter is Rice Jean Freeman-Zachery of Midland, Texas (husband Earl). In 1981, Donna retired from Conoco where she was a personnel assistant in the Midland Division. She served as a Junior Achievement Advisor and participated in the Conoco speaker's program. She later worked for Heritage Resources, Inc. for 4 ½ years. Donna led girl scout troops, participated in Toastmistress Club, and had a talent for sewing and crocheting. She met each day with a thoughtful, positive outlook and a desire to actively pursue happiness for herself and others. With her husband Cal, Donna enjoyed traveling with the West Texas Unit of the Airstream Club (WBCCI) for over 22 years during retirement. After losing Cal (the love of her life) in 2008, she moved to Katy, Texas, in 2009 to be near her family. She enjoyed making new friends and traveling with AARP and other groups. At a later date, the family will gather for a private celebration of her life. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Down's Syndrome Association of Houston (DSAH) in her name, Donna L. Freeman.
