It is with deep sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Cody Patrick Ponder, who left us on January 24, 2026, at the age of 35.

Cody was born on December 5, 1990, in Houston, Texas, and he lived his life with a big heart and an even bigger love for the people around him. Cody had an amazing smile that could light up a room, a natural gift for talking to anyone, and a way of making people feel seen and comfortable. He loved Houston sports, could rattle off statistics with ease, and never passed up spicy food.

Above all else, Cody loved his children fiercely. Being a dad was the greatest joy of his life, and he showed up for his kids—and for others—with loyalty, generosity, and care. He cherished time with family, whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply being together. Cody’s presence brought warmth and comfort, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

Cody is survived by his children, Scarlett and Rowan Ponder; his unmarried partner, BreeAnna Thompson; his parents, Thomas and Cindy Ponder; his siblings, Tonya Sharkey and Kyle Ponder; his brother-in-law, Michael Sharkey; and his nieces, Mara and Kathryn Sharkey. He will also be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Jadine Grimes.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2:00PM Hope Episcopal Church ,1613 W. 43rd Street, Houston, Texas 77018.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cody Ponder's Legacy Education Fund for his children.
