Carolyn Carter Tate Hathorn, 87, passed peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024 in Houston, Texas. Carolyn was born in Stephenville, Texas to Emma Carter and Claude B. Tate. She grew up in Texas with her sister, Frances Tate LeBleu and brother, Dr. Claude B. Tate, Jr. Carolyn graduated from Huntsville High School and then with a degree in Education from the University of Texas. In 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, Francis Norman Hathorn. Frank was a Navy pilot in the early years and the Navy took them to California, where Carolyn taught elementary school. Their first child was born in California, and soon thereafter they moved to Houston for Frank to start his banking career. Carolyn and Frank had 5 children, Carrie Frances Hathorn (Hammitt) lives in Colorado with her husband Rob Hammitt, their 2 daughters, a son and 2 granddaughters. Robert Wesley Hathorn and his wife Lien Do live in College Station, Texas with their 3 daughters, Janelle Leigh Hathorn (Clark) and her husband George Clark live in San Antonio and have a son and daughter. Phyllis Ann Hathorn (Schiebel) and her husband Curt Schiebel live in Spring Branch, Texas and have 2 sons. Timothy Wayne Hathorn and his wife Nancy Hathorn live in Cypress, Texas and have 3 daughters and a son. Carolyn was a gifted career Mom to her five children, loved playing tennis, she taught Sunday school early on, and they attended Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. She also loved attending bible studies with BSF and CBS. Carolyn and Frank were married 61 years until he passed in 2019. Carolyn is survived by her children and their families.
