Carla Jo Bishop passed away in Houston on April 24, 2023.

Carla was born on June 15, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas.

She graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas in 1968; received a B.A. from Southern Methodist University in 1972 in Biology and Chemistry; and was awarded a JD from University of Texas Law School in 1975.

Carla practiced law for forty years.  Most of her practice was involved with the oil and gas industry including the Department of Energy, Coastal Corporation, Conoco and Marathon as well as several law firms.  While working at Marathon, she had the No 1 Defense verdict in the nation for 1990, National Law Journal.

She also enjoyed her experience tutoring students from Kindergarten through freshman in college, specializing in Advanced Placement.

Throughout her life Carla had a passion for travel, animal welfare, the environment, arts and culture, and human rights.  She supported many organizations throughout her life that supported these causes.

Carla was a gracious hostess and enjoyed bringing people together and is credited with match-making that resulted in several successful marriages. She was proud of the many deep and lasting friendships that she had developed throughout her lifetime and recently said of her friends, “I love them all.”

Carla is survived by brother Mark Bishop (Luann) and sister Patricia Hollingsworth (Jay); nieces Kristin, Melissa, and Lauren, and nephew Jarod.

She was predeceased by her parents Naidae and J. Warren Bishop and brother Jay Bishop.
