December 6, 1925 ~ April 27, 2013 Buell E. (Junie) Sweeton, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 27, 2013. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Joyce, just 10 months earlier on June 15, 2012. He is also predeceased by his parents Buell and Elsie Sweeton, sister Nancy Austin, brother Allen Scott and son, B. Errol Sweeton, III. Buell was born in Houston, Texas to Elsie and Buell Sweeton. He was a third generation Houstonian and lifetime resident. Following his graduation from Lamar High School, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served from February, 1944, until March, 1946. Following the end of World War II, he worked in Houston in banking for many years. He also served four years as a Councilman for Bunker Hill Village. In his professional career, he was an entrepreneur, a homebuilder, and a world class salesman. Buell was in his element when he was entertaining. He and Joyce hosted elaborate Christmas parties, doing all the cooking themselves. Many of his recipes were shared only with family and a few of his friends. One of his close friends, Jeannie Brown, wrote once: Your dinner parties became famous, Martha Stewart could not match your skill; Rice pilaf, filets, the finest of wines, And at the end, there was never a bill. Buell was a faithful member of Chapelwood UMC for over 40 years and attended the 8:25 am service, where he served honorably as an Usher for the past 20 years. For 40 years, he sat in the same pew every Sunday. He was a member of the Funeral Guild, serving at 2 to 3 funerals per week. He regularly attended the Tuesday morning prayer breakfast. Buell was a positive influence in the lives of all who knew him and he was greatly loved. Buell is survived by his daughters: Melinda Sweeton McIntire and husband Mike; Melissa Sweeton Thorne and husband Bill; Marsha Sweeton Wicks and husband Don; grandchildren: Michael McIntire; Michelle Cash; Douglas Buell Gordon; Lindsey Gordon; Michelle Baxmann; Matthew Baxmann; Lee Sweeton Mayfield; and husband Chris; Kathryn Sweeton Self, and husband Ray; great grandchildren: Mackenzie Baxmann; Christian Guerrero; Brady Baxmann; Allison McIntire; Tyler, Bobbie and Tori Bloom; and Clif and Keenum Self. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Jeannie and Robert Brown, Carol and Jimmy Thompson, Cynthia Stone, Elizabeth Stone, and many others. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, 11 am in the Chapel of Chapelwood UMC, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Buell requested remembrances be in the form of donations to Chapelwood UMC Foundation, at Chapelwood.org.
