Bruce Koenig
October 22, 1955 — March 13, 2019
Bruce Wayne Koenig was called home by the Lord on Wednesday March 13, 2019. Bruce had been experiencing health complications for several years and passed peacefully at his home in Houston, TX in the company of friends and family.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Dolores, his son and daughter in law, Robert and Amanda, his daughter Regina and, his brother Burton Koenig, Sr and wife Nancy. Bruce is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
As an avid bowler, Bruce had many friends in the Houston area that he met through bowling. He was active in several leagues and was coach to his son in travel leagues and youth leagues though the late 80's and early 90's. He also had connections nation wide as he would regularly attend national competitions. It was through these trips that Bruce discovered Reno, NV. And we have all heard of his trips to Reno.
Bruce was also a very giving and supportive person, nothing evidences this more than his volunteering to scouting. Not only was he a scout leader for his son's cub scout troop but also a leader for a local chapter of sea scouts. He would teach camping, orienteering and knife safety to cub scouts followed by teaching knots, lifesaving, sailing and navigation to sea scouts.
As a testament to Bruce's "jack of all trades" attitude toward life, he was also a mechanic and general handyman. Many weekends you could find him under a car, fixing a busted pipe, doing a random home improvement or, doing any of these at a friend's house.
Even late in life Bruce's character and zeal for life shone through. As his medical conditions continued to complicate, not once did he complain. His focus was on bringing joy to others and living a life of love and compassion toward everyone. His love for silly, flashing, noisy gadgets never ceased and his joy of entertaining both young and old with them will be remembered for ever.
Services celebrating the life of Bruce Koenig will be at St. Matthew the Evangelist Church on Saturday March 23, 2019 in Houston, TX. Visitation will at 9:30 AM followed by funeral services at 11:30 AM. The family wants to honor Bruce's wishes and asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The American Diabetes Association at this link
