Betty Jo Thompson Rohan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose generosity, strength, and fierce love for her family touched countless lives. Her sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Betty was born on May 14, 1967, in Houston, Texas, to Gladys and Curtis Thompson. The youngest of eight children, she grew up in the Houston Heights, where she formed the deep family bonds that would remain central to her life. She graduated from Waltrip High School in 1985 and, on November 2 of that year, married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Brian Rohan.

Together, Brian and Betty built a life centered on love and family. They welcomed their sons, Dustin in 1991 and Luke in 1993. When Dustin married his own high school sweetheart, Chelsie, in 2017, Betty joyfully welcomed her into the family. The births of their daughters, Aubree in 2019 and Avery in 2021, brought Betty extraordinary happiness and gave her one of her most treasured names: “JoJo.”

Betty worked at Aetna Insurance and later in a private physician’s office. While she took pride in her professional life, her favorite titles were always Wife, Mom, and JoJo.

A lifelong learner and avid reader, Betty was intelligent, thoughtful, and wise beyond her years. She held her convictions with confidence and approached life with both compassion and resolve. She believed in standing up for those who could not stand up for themselves and was a passionate advocate for animal and human rights.

Betty’s commitment to helping others extended throughout her community. She served as president of her neighborhood homeowners association and participated in numerous committees, always seeking meaningful ways to contribute. When someone needed help, Betty showed up—with practical support, generosity, and a willingness to do whatever was needed.

She found joy in baking cookies, traveling, spending time at the family’s beach house, and caring for her beloved pets, including her newly adopted rescue dog, LuLu. She also enjoyed reality television, especially The Real Housewives and Vanderpump Rules. Above all, she cherished time with her family.

Betty had a remarkable gift for making occasions feel special. From showers and birthday parties to holidays and family gatherings, she decorated with enthusiasm and planned with care. The celebrations she created were expressions of her love. More than the decorations or preparations, she treasured the traditions, laughter, and time shared with her immediate and extended family. After all the care she put into making everything perfect, Betty was always ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy the party herself. That was when her natural sense of humor would shine the brightest. She had a way of making everyone laugh without even trying and, whether she realized it or not, was often the life of the party. Those moments of laughter and joy were just as memorable as the beautiful celebrations she worked so hard to create.

Kind, helpful, generous, and selfless, Betty was also assertive, resilient, and fiercely protective. She defended those she loved and stood beside them without hesitation. She often said, “Blood is thicker than water,” and lived those words through her unwavering loyalty to her family. Her loved ones knew they could depend on her.

Betty leaves behind her beloved husband of 41 years, Brian; her sons, Dustin and Luke; her daughter-in-law, Chelsie; her cherished granddaughters, Aubree and Avery; her five surviving siblings, Barbara Church (Joseph), Linda Zientek, William Thompson, James Thompson (Pam), and Lisa Metcalfe (Russell); her sisters-in-law, Shirley Thompson, Sheri Seawright, and Susan Rogers; and countless other extended family members and friends who will carry her memory forward.

Her life ended far sooner than those who loved her could have imagined. Though no one was ready to say goodbye, the love she gave, the traditions she created, and the strength she shared will remain part of her family forever.
