Bernard Lewis Schindler, Jr
July 25, 1955 – May 20, 2025
Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and brother in-law, Bernard Lewis Schindler, Jr., passed away May 20, 2025. He was 69 and passed away on his daddy’s birthday. “Buddy” as he was affectionately known by all, was born in Wharton, Texas, on July 25, 1955, to Bernard “Bennie” and Adeline Schindler. He was the only son surrounded by four sisters. Needless to say, he was dominated his whole childhood by them until he finally outgrew them. Even though he may not have realized it, he was adored by them.
Buddy attended school in Wharton and then on to Wharton County Junior College and Texas A&M University, where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in December 1977. Thus began his career with Halliburton, working in sales which lasted 38 years until his retirement in 2016. There he met many true and wonderful friends. He was a dynamo at his job as he was in every aspect of his life. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman and lover of archeology. He loved to search for arrowheads and other Indian relics. We always said he was part Indian as he could survive in the wild for days. He would eat anything he killed or caught and would somehow enjoy it. He was a great gourmet fry cook who could make a feast of things no one else could. His fisheye soup is one, however, his sisters refused to sample. He loved to spend time at his beach house in Matagorda with his family and sisters and brothers in-law.
Needless to say, Buddy was one of a kind. He was the most loving, caring and funniest person you would ever meet. The stories he told, which were all true, kept his audience laughing until they cried. God has taken a light from our eyes, but he is free now to explore the great heavens above.
Buddy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bennie and Adeline. He was a wonderful father to three sons. They are Ben of Kyle, Adam (Haille) and their two beautiful daughters, Amelia and Naomi , and a new one arriving in November, of Richmond, and Cole and his fiancé Evan of Kyle. Buddy is also survived by his four sisters Adeline “Cutie” (Tim) Sims of Lake Jackson, Susan (Gary) Radley of El Campo, Karen Schmermund of El Campo, and Camille “Cammy” (Dale) Janik of Sugar Land. Nieces and nephews are Jaime (Amy) Zwahr and son Zacary, Stephanie Hastings and sons Nicholas and Garrett, Clint (Janie) Radley and daughters Meredith and Madelyn, Heath (Cori) Radley and children Owen and Clair, Taylor (Jessica) Radley and children Tristan, Taylor “Buddy”, Jr and Gunnar, Dr. Brooke (Chad) Dorotik and children Myatt, Lyndon, William and Adeline, Brandie (Derrick) Bodungen and daughters Emilie and Kate, Britni (William) Key and children Adde, Clare and Bennet, Jourdan (Monica) Janik and children Emma and Carson, and Courtlan (Shelby) Janik and son Pierce. We all loved him dearly as he did them.
Buddy will be forever in our hearts and in our minds as we will always remember the good times and never-ending laughs that he gave to all of us. We love you Bud and pray you will rest well and be at peace with God. See you soon Bud.
