Barbara Jean McConn, age 83, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Barbara was born on March 7, 1942, in Houston, Texas to William (Bob) and Theresa Mraz. She was a proud graduate of St. Agnes Academy. A lifelong Houstonian, she dedicated 44 years of her professional life to Houston Community College, where she was known for her strong work ethic and commitment to education.
Barbara lived life with joy and spirit. She loved spending time at the beach, traveling, shopping, sewing, and enjoying a good margarita. A devoted sports fan, she proudly supported the Houston Astros and Houston Texans. She had a special fondness for cats and found her greatest happiness in time spent with her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, and she was extremely proud of. She loved them dearly. Each one was very special to her and held a special place in her heart.
To her daughters, she was their light, the one they always turned to. She was not only their mother, but also their best friend, always by their side. There was not an event that she missed – she was there for it all, from piano recitals, dance recitals and drill team performances to her grandkid’s dance recitals, softball and baseball games. She was their biggest fan. She was the best Mimi!
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kim McConn Moore (Mitchell), and Cheré McConn (Larry); her grandchildren, Kelley Moore (Eric), Mitchell Moore, Jr. (Christina), and Nicholas Norman; her great-grandchildren, Jack Moore and Everett Brown; her sisters, Dorothy Beaulier and Patricia McCormick; and her brother, Robert Mraz as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bob) and Theresa Mraz.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Fairbanks Court Assisted Living, Capstone Hospice and her devoted caregivers, nurse and physical therapist for their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care, which brought comfort and dignity to Barbara and peace to her loved ones. And also, to her Garden Oaks neighbors who were always so helpful and caring over the years.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman St., Houston, TX 77018.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, contagious laugh, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
